Fern Hill Furniture Works was
founded in 1997 to provide designer-built custom and limited-production
fine furnishings for the home. Most of our original designs are
rooted in familiar stylesShenandoah vernacular, Scandinavian,
Eastlakeand incorporate aesthetic and practical revisions
which address those styles in the context of the modern. Our clients
are usually involved deeply in the design process, from the conceptual
stage through drafting and the selection of materials; they and
our staff serve as a reservoir of bright ideas and a collective
arbiter of good taste.
The majority of our work is done
in solid hard- and softwood lumber, grown and processed locally.
When asked to execute a piece in exotic lumber, we make extensive
use of premium veneers as an environmentally sound alternative
to solid-wood panels; this technique tempers our consumption of
scarce resources, lowers the client's cost, and makes possible
many elements of design that would be impossible or irresponsible
in solid lumber.
Our success has been built on
our ethical commitments to fair business, environmental stewardship,
uncompromising standards of craftsmanship and outstanding value
to the client.
